Germany, Luftwaffe. A Summer Flight Suit
(Luftwaffe Fliegerschutzanzug). A very well-preserved Luftwaffe summer flight suit, constructed of a light olive-drab cotton blend with a gentle herringbone twill (HBT) weave. It features a turned-down collar and triple frontal zipper arrangement to allow the wearer to step in and out of the garment, with the lower zipper functioning as a fly. The cuff of each sleeve has a functional zipper fastening closed with an integral strap retaining a snap button. Dual pockets are set into the knee and thigh of each leg, similarly closing with zippers. Additional zippers are set into the ankles for the accommodation of footwear. Fully unmarked, the suit measures approximately 50 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 60 cm, and an overall collar-to-ankle length of 140 cm. Sporadic soiling consistent with wartime use is evident, and oxidation is visible to some of the metal features (rendering some zippers non-functional), but the suit remains in an overall better than very fine condition.
