Germany, Luftwaffe. An Officer’s Dress Dagger, with General's Hanger

(Luftwaffe Dolch für Offiziere mit Gehänge). A well-preserved Luftwaffe Officer’s dagger, measuring 43 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 26.5 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and edges. Unmarked, the blade sits securely within a silvered alloy crossguard, the obverse of which bears a raised Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika in high detail, with the seam covered by a black leather buffer pad. The handle grip is composed of a single piece of ribbed white celluloid, with the ribbing retaining an original twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire cord. It completes with a silvered alloy pommel in the form of a double-sided wreathed mobile swastika, screwing in to maintain the dagger’s structural integrity. Wrapped around the handle grip is a matching portepee, consisting of a stylized silver aluminum wire acorn suspended from a strap of identical construction. It is accompanied by its original scabbard, consisting of a pebbled magnetic metal shaft. The upper third of the shaft has two integral oak leaf bands retaining loops for the accommodation of a hanger. The throat retains a functional spring catch to firmly hold the dagger in place during storage. Minor running marks are visible to the blade, with additional loss of finish evident to the plated elements, but the dagger remains in a near extremely fine condition.

It is accompanied by a matching General's hanger, consisting of a functional gilded zink alloy spring clip with two loops. Suspended from each loop is a strap constructed of dark grey rayon threaded, flanked on the obverse by machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire tresses. Each strap is adjusted with a functional gilded zink alloy buckle, and completes with a functional spring clip of identical construction. Unmarked, it measures 26 mm in length as presented. Most of the gilt finish has been lost, but the hanger remains in a very fine condition.
