Germany, Nassau. A Merit Order of Adolph of Nassau, I Class Grand Cross with Swords, c.1914
(Nassauischer Verdienstorden Adoph von Nassau). Instituted 1858. Military Division. In silver gilt with white enamels featuring eight points, each with ball finials, obverse centrepiece in Gold with blue enamels, bearing the "A" in Gothic script crowned by an Imperial crown, obverse centrepiece ring depicting laurels and the motto "VIRTUTE", reverse centrepiece inscribed with the dates "1292" (the year Adolf of Nassau-Weilburg was crowned as King of the Romans) and "1858" (order institution date by Adolphe, Duke of Nassau), cross surmounted by a large Imperial crown in silver gilt, measuring 66.2 mm (w) x 94 mm (h) inclusive of its crown suspension, traces of gilt remains on the handles of the swords and on the crown, intact enamels, without ribbon, near extremely fine.
