Germany, NS-RKB. A NS-Reichskriegerbund Member’s Visor Cap, c.1939
(NS-Reichskriegerbund Dienstmütze). This is an extremely well-preserved NS-Reichskriegerbund (National Socialist Reich Warriors League) member’s visor cap, constructed of a dark blue wool twill. The peak of the cap is adorned with a veteran-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, overlaid with a black enameled Iron Cross, constructed of aluminum and measuring 67 mm (w) x 27 mm (h). Pinned into the cap underneath the eagle is a tri-colour cockade, constructed of aluminum, with a red felt centerpiece, within a wreath of stylized oak leaves and acorns. The adornment measures 62 mm (w) x 42 mm (h). The cockade is set into the cap band, constructed of black rayon, with a decorative motif of alternating mobile swastikas and Kyffhäuser Monuments. The cap is flanked by black magnetic metal buttons holding in place a black leather chinstrap, with dual adjustable magnetic metal buckles, which rests upon the visor when not in use. The visor is constructed of vulcanfibre, with a lacquered black obverse and tan reverse, and is securely set into the body of the cap. The interior of the cap features a 47 mm-wide, tan-coloured leather sweatband securely held in place by a row of machine stitching. Pasted to the inside of the sweatband is a fully intact label clearly reading “N.S.-Reichskriegerbund, Dienstmütze, Herstellerfirma Nr. 79”. The interior also features a complete, corduroy-style, off-white rayon liner bearing a transparent rhomboid moisture guard. Set inside the moisture guard is a handwritten name tag reading “Franz Großmann, 54 ½”. Underneath the moisture guard is a partially-visible NS-Reichskriegerbund logo, embossed in silver ink. The cap measures 245 mm (w) x 264 mm (l) x 148 mm (h).There is some cracking of the interior reinforcement inside the cap band, as well as minor soiling of the interior liner, but the cap is in an otherwise better than very fine condition.
