Germany, SA. A Rare Model 1933 Dagger, SA Group Nordsee, by Axt- und Hauerfabrik

(Sturmabteilung Dolch). A rare Model 1933 Sturmabteilung (SA) dagger, measuring 37 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 22.5 cm-long nickel-plated magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and edges. Acid-etched onto the obverse of the blade is an inscription of “ALLES FÜR DEUTSCHLAND” (“EVERYTHING FOR GERMANY”) in Fraktur script. The reverse ricasso bears a maker mark of “SOLINGER AXT- UND HAUERFABRIK”, circumscribing the firm’s horse logo. It sits securely within a nickel-silver upper crossguard marked with eight notches, distributed in groups of four along both the top and bottom. Stamped into the reverse are initials “NO”, indicating distribution to SA-Gruppe Nordsee (SA Group North Sea). The handle grip is composed of a single piece of dark brown woon, carved into a curvature for a comfortable grip. Inset into the obverse of the handle is a silvered German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 2.5 cm (w) x 1.5 cm (h). Also inset into the pommel is a partially-silvered SA insignia, measuring 1 cm in diameter. The dagger completes with a nickel-silver lower crossguard, similarly marked with eight notches, secured together with a rounded pommel nut which maintains the dagger’s structural integrity. The dagger is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a brown painted magnetic metal shaft. Nickel-silver fixtures are secured to the scabbard at both the throat and tip with side rivets. The former retains a loop for the accommodation of a hanger, as well as a functional spring catch, firmly holding the dagger in place during storage. Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include slight running marks to the blade, moderate loss of scabbard paint, and some blunting of the scabbard’s tip fixture. This example from a rare manufacturer is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
