Germany, SS. A Late-War Waffen-SS EM/NCO’s M43 Field Cap
(Waffen-SS Einheitsfeldmütze M43 für Mannschaften). An extremely well-preserved, late-war Waffen-SS EM/NCO’s M43 field cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped toward the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place with two pebbled zink buttons which emanate from the right panel and meet an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left panel. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a field-grey wool trapezoid bearing an SS-style Totenkopf, topped by an SS-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastik, both executed in silver-grey machine embroidery. Measuring 70 mm (w) x 50 mm (h), the insignia is notably secured in place with its factory original zig-zag stitching. The exterior features are completed with a protruding card stock-reinforced visor, fully lined in identical wool. The interior is encompassed by a multi-piece grey cotton herringbone twill (HBT) liner. Stamped onto the crown in black ink is a size mark of “57”. Other unmarked, the cap measures approximately 20.5 cm (w) x 26 cm (l) x 13.5 cm (h). Minor soiling consistent with wartime wear is visible to the interior liner, but the cap demonstrates no other evident damage or faults and is in an extremely fine condition.
