Germany, SS. A Rare Waffen-SS M42 Oak Leaf “B” Pattern Reversible Camouflage Smock
(Waffen-SS Wendetarnhemd M42 in Eichenlaubmuster). A rare and extremely well-preserved Waffen-SS M42 camouflage smock, constructed of a weather-hardened cotton/rayon-blended material. The exterior is dyed in a classic Oak Leaf “A” pattern camouflage with a mottle consisting of a predominantly medium-brown base overlaid by irregular splotches of light and dark green for use in summer conditions. The reverse is dyed in an autumn pattern consisting of a medium-brown base overlaid by irregular splotches of light and dark brown. A vertical slit descends approximately halfway down from the neck and is flanked by ten reinforced eyelets for the inclusion of a drawstring which has been lost to time. The shoulders are topped by three sets of six narrow loops for the addition of camouflage vegetation. Six additional loops are set into the backs of the necks. Both the wrists and waistband are elasticized for maximum functionality in the field. Dual pockets are set into the lower half, both closed with scalloped horizontal flaps perforated with reinforced buttonholes meeting pebbled zink buttons. All of these features are double-sided for efficient seasonal conversion. Unmarked, the smock measures approximately 60 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 55 cm, and an overall body length of 82 cm when folded on a flat surface. In addition to the missing drawstring the smock demonstrates minor material fatigue, but with no notable damage or wear, it remains in an extremely fine condition.
