Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS EM/NCO’s Dachau-Style M43 Field Cap
(Waffen-SS Einheitsfeldmütze M43). An extremely well-preserved Waffen-SS EM/NCO’s M43 field cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped toward the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front with two dark brown bakelite buttons which emanate from the right panel and meet an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left panel. The peak bears the outline of a one-piece trapezoidal eagle and Totenkopf insignia which has been carefully removed from the cap with only minimal disruption of the wool base. Completing the exterior features is a protruding visor with a card stock core, lined in identical wool on the obverse and presenting with an exposed core on the reverse in classic Dachau style. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece grey cotton/rayon-blended herringbone twill (HBT) liner. A size mark of “58” is stamped onto the crown in black ink. Otherwise unmarked, the cap measures approximately 18.5 cm (w) x 25.5 cm (l) x 14 cm (h). Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some moisture staining of the visor core and soiling of the interior liner. It remains in a near extremely fine condition.
