Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS EM/NCO’s M40 Overseas Cap

(Waffen-SS Schiffchen M40). An extremely well-preserved Waffen-SS EM/NCO’s M40 overseas cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side walls which gently sloped downward toward the front. The peak bears the unmistakable outline of an SS eagle insignia which has been carefully removed from the cap. Directly below the peak, the centre of the panels similarly demonstrates the outline of an SS-style Totenkopf, also removed with only minimal interference to underlying wool. The interior is fully encompassed by a beige rayon liner, which is unmarked with the exception of a size of “57” stamped onto the right side in black ink. It measures approximately 30 cm (l) x 12 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating no evident damage or wear aside from the missing insignia, it is in a near extremely fine condition.
