Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS Officer’s M40 Overseas Cap

(Waffen-SS Schiffchen für Offiziere). A well-preserved Waffen-SS Officer’s M40 overseas cap, constructed of field-grey wool. It is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels in a classic second pattern design, trimmed along the top edge with woven piping lined on the exterior with silver aluminum wire. The interior features a complete field-grey rayon liner which bears a black ink size stamp of “57” on the left side. Stitched onto the crown is a white cotton label bearing an embroidered owner’s name of “KARG”. The cap measures approximately 288 mm (l) x 130 mm (h) when folded flat. All exterior insignia have been removed, most of the silver aluminum wire has disintegrated leaving the interior piping exposed, and minor material fatigue is evident to the wool. The cap is in an overall very fine condition.
