Germany, Third Reich. A 1934 Nuremberg German Combat Games Commemorative Medallion, with Case, by Hutschenreuther
(Deutsches Kampfspiele Nürnberg Erinnerungsmedaille mit Etui). Constructed of gilded and brown-painted porcelain, the obverse bearing a central raised depiction of the Nuremberg skyline, flanked by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “DEUTSCHE KAMPFSPIELE NÜRNBERG, 1934” (“GERMAN COMBAT GAMES NUREMBERG, 1934), the reverse maker marked “HEUTSCHENREUTHER, SELB, BAVARIA”, circumscribing the firm’s classic lion insignia, measuring 52 mm in diameter, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a card stock frame with a faux red leather exterior liner, the interior with a white rayon lid liner, marked “GEGEBEN VON DER STADT NÜRNBERG”, with a depressed white velvet medal bed, measuring 72 mm (w) x 72 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), the case has lost its hinge with consequent detachment of lid and demonstrates moderate material fatigue, in overall near extremely fine condition.
