Germany, Third Reich. A 1936 Berlin Olympics Merit Plaque
(XI. Olympiade Berlin Erinnerungsplakette). Constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a square oak leaf frame, featuring a depression inset with a white enameled depiction of the Brandenburg Gate bearing an inscription of “1936 XI. OLYMPIADE BERLIN”, above Olympic rings, topped by a radiant swastika and raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTE UM DIE XI. OLYMPIADE, BERLIN 1936” (“FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO THE 11TH OLYMPIAD, BERLIN 1936”, the reverse with two visible riveted secured the enameled applique in place, unmarked, measuring 72 mm (w) x 100 mm (h), with minor chipping and hairline cracking visible to the enamels, in near extremely fine condition.
