Germany, Third Reich. A 1936 Olympic Games Commemorative Medal, with Case
(Deutsche Olympia-Erinnerungsmedaille 1936 mit Etui). Instituted 31 July 1936. (1936-1937 issue). Constructed of magnetic metal, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, the obverse bearing a central raised Olympic column, overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by a date of “1936”, topped by Olympic rings, the reverse bearing an inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTVOLLE MITARBEIT BEI DEN OLYMPISCHEN SPIELEN 1936” (“FOR MERITORIOUS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE OLYMPIC GAMES OF 1936”), unmarked, measuring 37.36 mm in diameter, weighing 18.7 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux white leather exterior liner, the lid bearing gilt Olympic rings, the interior with a grey rayon lid liner and partially-intact hinge cover, with a slotted and depressed grey velvet medal bed, closing with a functional spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 65 mm (w) x 112 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), with minor oxidation and fatigue evident to the decoration and case, respectively, in overall near extremely fine condition.
