Germany, Third Reich. A Fire Brigade Long Service Decoration, II Class with Case

(Reichsfeuerwehr-Ehrenzeichen, II. Klasse mit Etui). Instituted 22 June 1936 by Wilhelm Frick. (1936-1945 issue). Constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Geneva Cross, with its arms joined through the quadrants by a circular ring bearing an inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTE IM FEUERLÖSCHWESEN” (“FOR MERIT IN FIRE-FIGHTING”), the obverse with white enameled arms overlaid by stylized flames, bearing a central white enameled disc with a black mobile swastika, unmarked, measuring 43.36 mm (w) x 47.62 mm (h), weighing 17.6 grams, with some flecking and loss of finish evident to the enamel and metal, respectively, in very fine condition, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and partially-intact hinge cover, with a depressed black velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, with consistent material fatigue evident throughout, in fair condition.
