Germany, Third Reich. A Mixed Lot of Decorations
(Auszeichnungen). A mixed lot of three decorations, including a Krim Shield, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a map of Crimea and southern Ukraine, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by dates “1941-1942”, the reverse with all four attachment prongs intact, unmarked, measuring 52.05 mm (w) x 62.16 mm (h), missing its backplate and liner, in very fine condition; a West Wall Medal, constructed of bronzed zink, on loop for suspension, consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised pillbox topped by a crossed sword and shovel and a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR ARBEIT ZUM SCHUTZE DEUTSCHLANDS” (“FOR WORK IN THE DEFENCE OF GERMANY”), unmarked, measuring 33.42 mm (w) x 45.62 mm (h), weighing 13.8 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “DEUTSCHES SCHUTZWALL-EHRENZEICHEN” and a maker’s mark of “CARL POELLATH, SCHROBENHAUSEN”, measuring 60 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), with total loss of bronze finish evident to the medal, in overall very fine condition, and; an Honour Cross of the German Mother, Bronze Grade, constructed of bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original shortened ribbon, consisting of a Latin Cross with stylized sun rays joining the quadrants, the obverse bearing a central white enameled disc overlaid by a black swastika, circumscribed by a raised inscription of “DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER” (“TO THE GERMAN MOTHER”), the reverse bearing an etched institution date of “16. DEZEMBER 1938” and a signature of the Führer, unmarked, measuring 35.14 mm (w) x 45.15 mm (h), with a small chip to the enamel of the six o’clock arm and a velcro adhesive applied to the ribbon from previous display, in very fine condition.
