Germany, Third Reich. A Parade-Mounted 1936 Olympic Games Commemorative Medal
(Deutsche Olympia-Erinnerungsmedaille 1936). Instituted 31 July 1936. (1936-1937 issue). Constructed of magnetic metal, on loop for suspension from its period original parade-mounted ribbon with a red wool reverse liner and horizontal pinback, the obverse bearing a central column topped by Olympic rings, overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by a date of “1936”, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTVOLLE MITARBEIT BEI DEN OLYMPISCHEN SPIELEN 1936” (“FOR MERITORIOUS ASSISTANCE TO THE OLYMPIC GAMES OF 1936”), unmarked, measuring 37.14 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
