Germany, Third Reich. A Social Welfare Decoration, III Class with Case, by Gebrüder Godet
(Ehrenzeichen für deutsche Volkspflege, Kreuz III. Stufe mit Etui). Instituted 1 May 1939. (1939-1945 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Geneva Cross, the obverse with white enameled arms, overlaid by a black enameled German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, with feathering and details highlighted in gilt, unmarked, measuring 40.09 mm (w) x 44.32 mm (h), weighing 16.2 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux red leather exterior liner, the interior with a blue satin lid liner complete with a strap to retain the award’s ribbon, bearing a partially-legible gilt inscription of “EHRENZEICHEN FÜR DEUTSCHE VOLKSPFLEGE 3. STUFE”, with an intact blue satin hinge cover and depressed velvet medal bed, closing with a metal spring catch with exterior stud release, the base bearing an embossed maker’s mark of “GEBR. GODET, BERLIN”, measuring 65 mm (w) x 70 mm (l) x 25 mm (h), the lid liner has detached from the box and the stud release no longer functions while the award remains in an extremely fine condition; notably accompanied by a Nationalsozialistisches Reichskriegerbund (National Socialist Imperial Fighters’ League/NSRKB) member’s pin, constructed of aluminum, unmarked, measuring 27 mm (w) x 16 mm (h), secreted by the recipient within the case’s lid liner, in extremely fine condition.
