Germany, Third Reich. An Honour Cross of the German Mother, Bronze Grade with Case and Miniature, by Wilhelm Deumer
(Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter in Bronze mit Etui und Miniatur). Constructed of bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Latin Cross with its arms joined through the quadrants by stylized sun rays, the obverse with blue and white enameled arms, with a central white enameled disc bearing a black swastika, circumscribed by a raised inscription of “DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER” (“TO THE GERMAN MOTHER”), the reverse bearing an etched institution date of “16. DEZEMBER 1938” and a signature of the Führer, unmarked, measuring 36 mm (w) x 46 mm (h), accompanied by a matching miniature, of identical appearance and construction, on loop for suspension from a period original bow tie-style ribbon with a horizontal pinback, unmarked, measuring 18 mm (w) x 24 mm (h), both secreted within a period original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux dark blue leather frame, the lid bearing a gilt depiction of the award, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and slotted white felt medal bed, the former marker marked “WILH. DEUMER, LÜDENSCHEID”, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, measuring 50 mm (w) x 110 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), with only minor flecking of enamels and material fatigue evident to the decorations and case, respectively, the large cross likely unworn, in overall extremely fine condition.
