Germany, Third Reich. An Olympic Games Commemorative Medal
(Deutsche Olympia-Erinnerungsmedaille 1936). Constructed of magnetic metal, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, the obverse bearing a central raised Olympic column, topped by rings, flanked by a date of “1936”, and overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTVOLLE MITARBEIT BEI DEN OLYMPISCHEN SPIELEN 1936” (“FOR MERITORIOUS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE OLYMPIC GAMES OF 1936”), above a clutch of oak leaves, unmarked, measuring 37.06 mm in diameter, weighing 19.1 grams, with tarnishing of the base metal evident throughout, in very fine condition.
