Germany, Wehrmacht. A 1939 Iron Cross I Class, by Wächtler & Lange
(Eisernes Kreuz 1939 I. Klasse). Reinstituted 1 April 1939. (1939-1945 issue). Constructed of brass and silver, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened non-magnetic brass core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central mobile swastika, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1939”, the reverse with a block hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Wächtler & Lange, Mittweida, measuring 43.75 mm (w) x 43.66 mm (h), weighing 20.0 grams, minor loss of paint evident to the core, in overall extremely fine condition.
