Germany, Wehrmacht. A 1944 Campaign Medal for the Spanish “Blue Division” Volunteers in Russia
(Medalla de la Campaña de la División Española de Voluntarios en Rusia). Constructed of circular zink alloy; on loop for suspension; with a correct replacement ribbon; the obverse with two shields superimposed on a horizontal sword, with the left shield bearing the arms of the German Wehrmacht (an eagle with open wings perched on top of a roundel with a central mobile swastika), with the shield on the right bearing the Spanish Falangist arrows, and a Stahlhelm above facing towards the left; with a static swastika superimposed atop laurel wreaths; the reverse inscribed “División Española de Voluntarios en Rusia” (Division of Spanish Volunteers in Russia), with oak and laurel wreaths directly beneath with an Iron Cross 1939 at the base; measuring 32.40 mm in diameter; weighing 11.4 grams; in overall near very fine condition.
