Germany, Wehrmacht. A Black Grade Wound Badge, by Carl Wild
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz). Constructed of blackened magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, around a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a clip hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “107” for Carl Wild, Hamburg, measuring 36.92 mm (w) x 44.07 mm (h), weighing 10.6 grams, accompanied by a mis-matched package of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock with black ink, the exterior bearing an inscription of “VERWUNDETENABZEICHEN SCHWARZ” and a maker’s mark of “HEINRICH WANDER, GABLONZ/NEIßE”, measuring 60 mm (w) x 100 mm (h), with minor loss of finish visible to the badge, in extremely fine condition.
