Germany, Wehrmacht. A Close Combat Clasp, Silver Grade, by Friedrich Linden
(Nahkampfspange in Silber). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a central square oak leaf wreath, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a mobile swastika, overlaid by a crossed bayonet and stick grenade, with a magnetic metal backplate, flanked on each side by sun rays and four oak leaves with acorns, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, designer marked “PEEKHAUS, BERLIN” and maker marked with the logo of Friedrich Linden, Lüdenscheid, measuring 96.70 mm (w) x 25.86 mm (h), weighing 34.2 grams, most of the silver finish has been lost and there is evident of period repair to the hinge and catch, in overall very fine condition.
