(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 I. Klasse mit 1939 Spange und Etui). A rare and exquisite example of a combined 1914 Iron Cross I Class with 1939 Clasp, constructed of iron and silver, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with a threaded lug connecting to a period original circular backplate, maker marked with LDO code “L/16” for Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid, soldered to the twelve o’clock arm is a second-pattern clasp consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, on top of of a trapezoidal plaque bearing a raised date of “1939” on a pebbled background, the reverse with a stabilizing clip, the cross measuring 43.80 mm (w) x 43.86 mm (h), the clasp measuring 44.74 mm (w) x 30.37 mm (h), weighing 31.7 grams, accompanied by a stick pin miniature, constructed of silvered bronze with enamels, unmarked, measuring 8.83 mm (w) x 13.73 mm (h), in extremely fine condition, also accompanied by a period original presentation case, constructed of a heavy card stock frame with a faux black leather exterior, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, the lid liner marked with a gilt “LDO” logo, with a slotted black velvet medal bed, opening with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional metal hinge, measuring 76 mm (w) x 105 mm (l) x 25 mm (h), with minor oxidation of the silver finish of the cross evident, in addition to some material fatigue of the case, a rare combined and complete 1914 and 1939 Iron Cross set in near extremely fine condition.
