Germany, Wehrmacht. A General Assault Badge, by Rudolf Karneth
(Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, surrounding a central Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, above a crossed bayonet and stick grenade, the reverse with a ball hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Rudolf Karneth, Gablonz, measuring 42.28 mm (w) x 54.06 mm (h), weighing 28.7 grams, a rare example of a zink badge retaining virtually all of its original silver finish, in near mint condition.
