Germany, Wehrmacht. A Gold Grade Wound Badge, by the Vienna Mint
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold). Constructed of gilded zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting an integral catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “30” for the Vienna Mint, measuring 36.23 mm (w) x 43.77 mm (h), weighing 26.2 grams, accompanied by its original package of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “VERWUNDETENABZEICHEN IN GOLD” (“WOUND BADGE IN GOLD”) on a sticker pasted over a previous inscription with a maker’s mark of “HAUPTMÜNZAMT WIEN” for the Vienna Mint, measuring 60 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), demonstrating near-total loss of gilt finish, in overall very fine condition.
