Germany, Wehrmacht. A Mint 1939 Iron Cross II Class with Case

(Eisernes Kreuz 1939 II Klasse) Reinstituted 1 September 1939. Constructed of silvered nickel alloy and iron, consisting of a cross paty with a blackened magnetic iron core with a ribbed, swhite-painted nickel alloy frame, the obverse centre bears a mobile swastika, the 6 o’clock arm bears the reinstitution date “1939”, the reverse 6 o’clock arm bears the date “1813”, on a loop for suspension with red, white and black striped ribbon, unmarked, measuring 44 mm (w) x 49.60 mm (h), near mint.

Accompanied by a rectangular case constructed of a black pebbled material, hinged latch, the interior lid of an off-white fabric with two elastics to secure the ribbon, the medal bed of an off-white felt, measuring 67.80 mm (w) x 82.28 mm (h), very fine.
