Germany, Wehrmacht. A Pair of Mint and Unissued Service Decorations
(Wehrmacht Abzeichen). A pair of unissued Wehrmacht service decorations, including an Eastern Front Medal, constructed of silvered and patinated zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (“WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941/42”), above a crossed sword and laurel branch, topped by a Stahlhelm and stick grenade, unmarked, measuring 36.28 mm (w) x 44.35 mm (h), weighing 23.8 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of rose-pink paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “MEDAILLE ‘WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42 (OSTMEDAILLE)’” and a maker’s mark of “PAUL MEYBAUER, BERLIN”, measuring 60 mm (w) x 86 mm (h), in near mint condition, and; a Black Grade Wound Badge, constructed of blackened magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a vertical pinback meeting a flattened catch, unmarked, measuring 36.68 mm (w) x 44.28 mm (h), weighing 6.7 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “VERWUNDETENABZEICHEN SCHWARZ” and a maker’s mark of “HEINRICH WANDER, GABLONZ/NEIßE”, measuring 60 mm (w) x 100 mm (h), minor oxidation shows through the sides of the badge’s wreath indicative of storage in damp conditions, in overall near mint condition.
