Germany, Wehrmacht. A Pair of Service Badges
(Wehrmacht Dienstabzeichen). A pair of service badges, including a War Merit Cross, I Class with Swords, constructed of silvered zink, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with pebbled arms and a central wreathed mobile swastika, with crossed swords through the centrepiece, the reverse with a block hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with LDO code “L/13” for Paul Meybauer, Berlin, measuring 48.58 mm (w) x 48.49 mm (h), weighing 20.0 grams, with most of the silver finish lost, in overall very fine condition, and; a Black Grade Wound Badge, constructed of blackened magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a circular laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “88” for Werner Redo, Saarlautern, measuring 37.12 mm (w) x 44.55 mm (h), weighing 12.4 grams, with some loss of finish evident, in overall very fine condition.
