Germany, Wehrmacht. A Panzer Assault Badge, Special Grade for 25 Engagements, by Josef Feix Söhne
(Panzerkampfabzeichen mit Einsatzzahl 25). Constructed of silvered and patinated zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a plaque bearing a raised number “25”, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, set around a central Panzer IV rolling over logs, with its left tread tending beyond the edge of the wreath, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a maker-trademark flat wire catch with an anti-rotation fixture, with two visible rivets securing the obverse Panzer in place, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Josef Feix Söhne, Gablonz, measuring 47.40 mm (w) x 61.76 mm (h), weighing 35.1 grams, a scarce and unusually well-preserved example retaining virtually all of its original finish, in extremely fine condition.
