Germany, Wehrmacht. A War Merit Cross 1939 with Swords, 1957 Version

(Kriegsverdienstkreuz) Instituted 18 October 1939. A Maltese cross paty constructed of silvered bronze alloy, the obverse centre bears the daye “1939” within a wreath, the cross arms are pebbled with a smooth border, two upwards facing crossed swords lay in the quadrants between the arms, the reverse is plain and bears a vertical pinback with flat wire catch, measuring 49.14 mm (w) x 48.83 mm (h), very fine.
