(Drittes Reich Abzeichen). A Wehrmacht award souvenir board compiled for an Allied serviceman in occupied Germany, featuring 15 decorations set on a white card stock backer measuring 300 mm (w) x 220 mm (h), including:
1. A 1939 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central mobile swastika, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1939”, the reverse six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, unmarked, measuring 43.97 mm (w) x 48.40 mm (h), on very fine condition
2. A Wehrmacht Driver’s Proficiency Badge, constructed of zink, the obverse consisting of a circular laurel leaf wreath, with a central steering wheel, unmarked, measuring 40.48 mm (w) x 43.58 mm (h), in very fine condition
3. A U-Boat Front Clasp, constructed of bronzed feinzink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Kriegsmarine-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, flanked on each side by six oak leaves, the reverse with a barrel hinge and horizontal pinback, maker marked “SCHWERIN, BERLIN”, measuring 76.39 mm (w) x 23.95 mm (h), the clasp is missing its catch and a screw has been drilled through it, in overall fair condition;
4. A miniature Honour Cross of the German Mother, Bronze Grade, constructed of bronze with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Latin Cross, the obverse with blue and white enameled arms, with a central black swastika on a white enameled disc, circumscribed by a raised inscription of “DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER” (“TO THE GERMAN MOTHER”), unmarked, measuring 18.24 mm (w) x 25.03 mm (h), with a modified pin and period original ribbon, in very fine condition
5. An Eastern Front Medal, constructed of silvered and patinated zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a swastika, the reverse with an inscription of “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (“WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941/42”), above a crossed sword and laurel branch, topped by a Stahlhelm and stick grenade, unmarked, measuring 36.00 mm (w) x 44.32 mm (h), all of the finish has been lost, in overall very fine condition.
6. A War Merit Cross, II Class with Swords, constructed of bronzed zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms, the obverse with a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with a central wreathed date of “1939”, unmarked, measuring 47.97 mm (w) x 48.55 mm (h), some oxidation and loss of finish evident, in overall very fine condition.
7. A Social Welfare Decoration, constructed of silvered feinzink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a raised Geneva Cross, topped by a NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with an inscription of “MEDAILLE FÜR DEUTSCHE VOLKSPFLEGE” (“MEDAL FOR THE CARE OF THE GERMAN PEOPLE”), unmarked, measuring 38.50 mm in diameter, in better than very fine condition.
8. A clasp for a 1939 Iron Cross, II Class, constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, above a trapezoidal plaque bearing a raised date of “1939”, the reverse with all four attachment prongs intact, unmarked, measuring 30.66 mm (w) x 30.48 mm (h), with evidence of repainting, in overall very fine condition.
9. A War Merit Cross, I Class with Swords, constructed of silvered zink, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with pebbled arms, with a central wreathed mobile swastika and crossed swords through the centrepiece, unmarked, measuring 47.85 mm (w) x 46.05 mm (h), most of the finish has been lost, in overall very fine condition.
10. A Wound Badge, Black Grade, constructed of blackened magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 37.02 mm (w) x 44.98 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
11. A War Merit Cross, I Class, constructed of silvered zink, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with pebbled arms, with a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “3” for Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid, measuring 46.63 mm (w) x 47.22 mm (h), weighing 17.2 grams, most of the silver finish has been lost, in overall very fine condition.
12. A Narvik Shield, constructed of silvered feinzink, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a propeller, anchor, and edelweiss, representing the Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, and Gebirgsjäger, respectively, flanked by a date of “1940”, topped by an inscription of “NARVIK” and a German national eagle perched on top of a wreathed swastika, unmarked, measuring 42.10 mm (w) x 90.92 mm (h), in better than very fine condition.
13. A West Wall Medal, constructed of bronzed zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, the obverse with a raised pillbox topped by a crossed sword and shovel and a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with an inscription of “FÜR ARBEIT ZUM SCHUTZE DEUTSCHLANDS” (“FOR WORK IN THE PROTECTION OF GERMANY”), unmarked, measuring 32.92 mm (w) x 45.06 mm (h), oxidation and loss of finish evident, in overall poor condition.
14. A Krim Shield, constructed of bronzed feinzink, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a map of Crimea and southern Ukraine, overlaid by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by dates “1941-1942”, unmarked, measuring 51.72 mm (w) x 61.94 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition, and;
15. A War Merit Medal, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from is period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Maltese Cross with a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of “FÜR KRIEGS-VERDIENST 1939” (“FOR WAR MERIT 1939”), unmarked, measuring 32.52 mm in diameter, in near extremely fine condition.
