Germany, Wehrmacht. A West Wall Medal by Sohni, Heubach & Co.
(Deutsches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen). Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, the obverse with a pillbox topped by a crossed sword and shovel and a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with an inscription of “FÜR ARBEIT ZUM SCHUTZE DEUTSCHLAND” (“FOR WORK IN THE DEFENCE OF GERMANY”), unmarked, measuring 32.95 mm (w) x 45.57 mm (h), weighing 18.5 grams, accompanied by its period original pocket of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock, the obverse with an inscription of “DEUTSCHES SCHUTZWALL EHRENZEICHEN”, the reverse with a maker’s mark of “SOHNI, HEUBACH & CO., I-OBERSTEIN”, measuring 58 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
