Germany, Wehrmacht. An Eastern People’s Medal, I Class in Gold with Swords and Case, by Wächtler & Lange
(Tapferkeits- und Verdienstauszeichnung für Ostvölker, I.Klasse in Gold mit Schwertern und Etui). Constructed of gilded zink, the obverse consisting of an eight-pointed radiant star, overlaid by a central rosette within a laurel leaf wreath, with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “100” for Wächtler & Lange, Mittweida, measuring 82.90 mm (w) x 83.90 mm (h), weighing 78.4 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a heavy card stock frame with a faux black leather exterior, the lid with bearing a gilt depiction of the award, the interior with a white satin-type lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted black felt medal bed, opening with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 68 mm (w) x 68 mm (l) x 25 mm (h), with most of the gilt finish absent from the badge, in overall better than very fine condition.
