Germany, Wehrmacht. An Iron Cross 1939, I Class in Case
(Eisernes Kreuz 1939 1. Klasse). An Iron Cross 1939 First Class, a cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a brass core (non-magnetic) within a ribbed border, the obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the re-institution date “1939” in raised numbering on the lower arm, the reverse plain, with a slender banjo style vertical pinback, a barrel hinge, and a flat wire catch, unmarked but bearing the physical characteristics of manufacture by Otto Schickle, Pforzheim, measuring 43.87 mm (w) x 44.19 mm (h), weighing 15.2 grams, with some of the black finish worn off, accompanied by the presentation case constructed of lightly textured black faux leather exterior with the “LDO” logo of the Leistungsgemeinschaft Deutscher Ordenhersteller (Guild of German Awards Manufacturers) stamped on the interior of the lid, with a slotted medal bed, measuring 68 mm (w) x 68 mm (l) x 13 (h), all very well preserved and in overall very fine condition.
