Germany, Wehrmacht. An Owner-Attributed Black Grade Wound Badge, by Carl Wild
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz). Constructed of blackened bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “107” for Carl Wild, Hamburg, measuring 36.87 mm (w) x 44.14 mm (h), weighing 13.4 grams, accompanied by a mis-matched but period original package of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock, the exterior bearing a partially-intact owner’s label formerly reading “MANZENREITER RUDOLF, 18992”, a stamped inscription of “VERWUNDETENABZEICHEN SCHWARZ 1939”, and a maker’s mark of “RUDOLF SOUVAL, WIEN”, measuring 57 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), in overall extremely fine condition.
