Germany, Wehrmaht. A Wound Badge, Black Grade, First Pattern
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz). Constructed of blackened bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath with scalloped outer edges, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 37.62 mm (w) x 42.90 mm (h), weighing 12.4 grams, with slight loss of finish evident to high-contact points, a first pattern badge of the variety distributed to members of the Condor Legion in extremely fine condition.
