Germany, Weimar Republic. A German Field Honour Decoration, with Case and Stick Pin Miniature, by M. Fleck & Sohn
(Deutsches-Feld-Ehrenzeichen mit Anstecknadel und Etui). Constructed of silvered and gilded bronze with enamels, the obverse consisting of an elongated eight-pointed radiant star, the obverse bearing a central oval medallion overlaid by a raised German soldier in Stahlhelm and full field gear, surrounded by a pebbled gilt border, in turn forming the centrepiece of a white enameled Cross Pattée with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse applique in place, etched with an inscription of “DEUTSCHES FELD-EHRENZEICHEN” (“GERMAN FIELD HONOUR BADGE”), with a block hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, marked “HAMBURG 11”, measuring 52.53 mm (w) x 64.00 mm (h), weighing 31.0 grams, accompanied by a stick pin miniature, of identical construction and composition, measuring 16.39 mm (w) x 19.58 mm (h), both secreted within a period original presentation case, of two-piece card stock construction, the exterior of the lid bearing a black inscription of “DEUTSCHES FELD-EHREN-ZEICHEN, HAMBURG 11”, the interior of the lid bearing a maker’s mark of “M. FLECK & SOHN, HAMBURG” with the firm’s address and contact details, with a card stock insert to secured both the badge and pin in place, measuring 65 mm (w) x 75 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), loss of finish is evident to the badge and material fatigue visible throughout the case, a complete set in very fine condition.
