Germany, Weimar Republic. A Prussian War Commemorative Cross I Class for War Aid and Care of Wounded
(Preußisches Kriegserinnerungskreuz 1. Klasse für Kriegshilfe u. Verwundetenfürsorge). Constructed of a gilded copper alloy with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with white enameled arms bordered by black enamels and joined together through the quadrants by a green enameled oak leaf wreath, bearing a central white enameled disc overload by a red and white Geneva Cross, set within a black enameled border bearing an inscription of “FÜR KRIEGSHILFE U. VERWUNDETENFÜRSORGE”, the reverse with a barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, unmarked, measuring 48.88 mm (w) x 48.80 mm (h), weighing 25.7 grams, with minor flecking of the enamels evident, in extremely fine condition.
