Germany, Weimar Republic. A Reichswehr NCO’s Sabre, by Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie
(Reichswehr Säbel für Unterführer). A well-preserved Reichswehr NCO’s sabre, measuring 96 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features an 81 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade with a slight curvature, sharpened tip and lower edge, and with a fuller running approximately two-thirds of the length of each side of the blade. It is unmarked with the exception of a maker’s mark on the obverse ricasso in the form of the logo of Weyesburg, Kirschbaum & Cie, Solingen. It sits securely within a multi-piece, nickel-plated, magnetic metal hilt with a crossguard and hand guard. The handle grip is composed of a single piece of ribbed black celluloid, with the ribbing retaining an original twisted and rolled bronze wire cord. It is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft. An integral band situated near the throat features a loop for the accommodation of a hanger. Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some running marks to the blade, loss of finish to the hilt, and scratching of the scabbard paint. It remains in a near extremely fine condition.
