Hamburg, Free City. A City Police Long Service Medal, c.1890
(Bürgermilitär Dienst Medaille) Instituted 15 January 1865. An ovular medal constructed of silver, the obverse centre bears an iron cross paty with a central Hamburg city coat of arms, circumscribed with “HAMBURGER BÜRGER MILITAIR GESTIFTET D. 15 JANUAR 1865”, the reverse centre bears “XXV” (25) and is encompassed by an open ended wreath of laurel and oak tied with a ribbon at the bottom, with loop for suspension on a white and red ribbon, measuring 27.19 mm (w) x 37.25 mm (h), weighing 10.6 g, very fine.
