Hesse-Darmstadt. An Order of the Golden Lion, Museum Display Collar
(Hausorden des Goldenen Löwen, Kette). Instituted 1770 by Landgraf (count) Frederick II of Hesse-Kassel. In bronze gilt, a museum display collar presenting 24 links, 12 of which are lions raising one paw alternating directions each measuring 57.2mm (w – inclusive of integral ring attached to paw) x 30mm (h), between each lion is a monogram FL link for Landgraf Friedrich II, each measuring 38.1mm (w – inclusive of integral rings) x 29.2mm (h), reverse of each link is plain, each link is separated by three small rings, the central monogram link has an additional suspension loop at 6 o’clock, directly across the monogram link has a pinch and slide clasp, the collar measures roughly 1100mm in length, reverse presents residue on four monogram clasps, scattered gilt wear, a lovely museum example in very fine condition.
