(Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen Für Rettung von Menschenleben). Instituted 14 November 1849 by Grand Duke Ludwig III. (1849-1889 issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a leftward-facing profile of Grand Duke Ludwig III, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with an inscription of “FÜR RETTUNG VON MENSCHEN LEBEL” (“FOR RESCUE OF HUMAN LIFE”), the obverse maker marked “C. VOIGT”, measuring 33.15 mm in diameter, weighing 16.8 grams, in near extremely fine condition.
