Hesse-Kassel, Landgraviate. A War Commemorative Medal for Combatants of 1814-1815

(Kriegsdenkmünze 1814-1815 Kämpfer). Instituted 14 March 1821 by Landgrave Wilhelm II. (1821 issue). Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a crowned and wreathed monogram of Landgrave Wilhelm II, above an inscription of “SEINEN TAPFERN HESSEN 1821” (“HIS BRAVE HESSIANS 1821”), the reverse bearing an Iron Cross with central wreathed dates “1814-1815”, circumscribed by an inscription of “GOTT BRACH DES FEINDES MACHT UND HESSEN WARD BEFREIT” (“GOD BROKE THE ENEMY’S POWER AND HESSE WAS LIBERATED”), unmarked, measuring 29.00 mm in diameter, weighing 15.9 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in extremely fine condition.
