Italy, Kingdom. A Taking of Gorizia Commemorative Medal with Fob in Gold, c.1916
In 18K Gold, weighing 12.7 grams, obverse illustrating a standing naked man putting his right foot forward, a horse to his left standing on its hind legs, the man holding the horse by the bit, with a small Winged Victory figure with laurel wreath at the upper left, inscribed "PRESA DI GORIZIA 8 AGOSTO MCMXVI", numbered "75" and engraver marked "E. CASTELLVCCI", reverse inscribed "XII DIVISIONE / BRIGATA CASALE / BRIGATA PAVIA / 3° REGG ART. CAMPAGNA / 30° REGG ART. CAMPAGNA / 1° GRVPPO BOMBARDE / 25° GRVPPO ROMBARDE / 57° BATT GENIO / 7a BATTERIA SOMEGGIATA / 55a BATTERIADA MONTAGNA" within a wreath of laurel leaves, a spread-winged eagle at the top, the Town of Gorizia coat-of-arms fronted by a sword at the base, and engraver marked "SJ" (Stefano Johnson), measuring 23.7 mm in diameter, suspended from an 18K Gold fob with horizontal bar hanger, extremely fine.
