Medal of Military Valour, II Class Silver Grade: in silver, reverse national hallmarked, marked "800" (silver) and engraved "ALTIERI GIOSAFATTA" in the centre, surrounded by the engraved inscription "CIELO DEL MEDIT. / DIC. 941 - NOV. 942" (Mediterranean Sky / December 1941 to November 1942), measuring approximately 34.5 mm (w) x 39 mm (h) inclusive of its integral suspension, original ribbon, extremely fine. Accompanied by his Ministry of Aeronautics Award Document, the Order Number 47 at the upper left, with the Kingdom of Italy coat-of-arms overprinted with "REPUBBLICA ITALIANA" (Italian Republic) in red ink, the heading "MINISTERO DELL' AERONAUTICA" (Ministry of Aeronautics) immediately below, indicating he was awarded the Medal of Military Valour, II Class Silver Grade on February 8, 1946, the document inscribed in typewritten text "Al Tenente Pilota ALTIERI Giosafatta, da Castellana (Bari). / Primo pilota di velivolo da trasporto impegnato in azioni di rifornimento alle nostre truppe operanti in Libia lungo rotte insidiate del nemico, dava constante prova di ardimento e di abnegazione, prodigandosi sempre ed ovunque in uno slancio di assoluta dedizione al dovere. Durante una missione di guerra su percorso particolarmente infido, attaccato dalla caccia nemica sosteneva aspro impari combattimento, dal quale non faceva ritorno. / Cielo del Mediterraneo, dicembre 1941 - novembre 1942." (To Lieutenant Pilot Giosafatta Altieri, from Castellana (Bari). / The first transport aircraft pilot engaged in refueling actions for our troops operating in Libya along enemy routes, he gave constant proof of daring and self-denial, always and everywhere doing his utmost in an impulse of absolute dedication to duty. During a war mission on a particularly treacherous path, attacked by the enemy fighter he sustained bitter uneven combat, from which he did not return. / Cielo del Mediterraneo, December 1941 - November 1942.), dated December 12, 1947 at Rome, the Ministry of Aeronautics embossed seal and signature of the Minister at the lower right, printed in black ink, both the medal and document under glass, in a wooden frame, measuring 312 mm (w) x 410 mm (h), exhibiting fold marks and light soiling, document better than very fine.
