Japan, Imperial. An Army Officer’s Visor Cap
This is a very well-preserved Japanese Army officer’s visor cap constructed of brown wool featuring a classic high peak, bordered with red piping along the top edge. A red wool band surrounds the circumference, fronted by a bronze gilt star. Each side has two ventilation holes between the piping and wool band, all with brown eyelets. The visor is constructed of black leather, with a black leather chinstrap laying across the top, attached to gilded buttons on either side displaying raised chrysanthemums. The interior features a tan-coloured leather sweatband, and is also lined in black silk with Japanese writing embroidered in white thread. The cap measures 220 mm (w) x 2210 mm (h). There is some mothing of the exterior wool, but the cap is in an otherwise very fine condition.
