Issued 1879. Sash Badge in silver gilt displaying a five pointed white enameled star with hand painted centre in a blue enameled surround, reverse wtih silver centre motif with enameled laurel surround, with laurel suspension mounted to integral half ring, measuring 54 mm (w) x 107 mm (h - inclusive of both laurel suspension and loop), marked with boars head Silver assay mark (1838), marked AXC for manufacture Adrien Chaubillon, Paris, as well as Austrian Import mark 1901-1921, with enamel repair to 12 o'clock arm, and minor loss to laurels, on osilk sash, very fine. Breast star of typical French style manufacture in silver gilt with a five pointed white enameled star with ball finials, centre motif in toned silver with green laurel and detailed silver gilt surround, reverse with pin assembly and two stays, well marked on both pin and catch with Austrian Import mark 1901-1921, measuring 81 mm (w) x 82 mm (h), with hairline cracks to white enameling and minor green enamel loss, near very fine.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
