A fine example of a 1910-1918 issue Lippe Rose Order for Art and Science Neck Badge (Lippische Rose-Orden für Kunst und Wissenschaft Halsdekoration); a silver rose-shaped medal with silver gilt leaves between the pedals of the rose; the obverse with a central medallion with a depiction of two women (Art and Science), surrounded by a blue enameled ring, inscribed “Fuer Kunst und Wissenschaft” (German - For Art and Science); the reverse with a centre medallion, inscribed with the royal monogram of Grafregent Ernst zur Lippe, inscribed “Gestiftet den 9. Juni 1898”; on a rose-twig shaped and broad loop suspension - marked “Gebrüder Godet & Co, Berlin”; without its ribbon; measuring 41.99 mm x 48.11 mm; weighing 19.8 grams; light patina from age; in overall extremely fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
