Iran, Pahlavi Empire. An Order of the Lion and Sun, II Class Star
(Neshaan-e Shir O Khorshid). Instituted by Fath-Ali Shah Qajar in 1808. Type IV. (1872-1939 Issue). A silver star, likely of French manufacture, composed of seven arms, each arm consisting of five faceted rays with one green enamelled ray between each cluster, the central medallion bears a handpainted couchant lion on a green foreground and yellow enamel background with a sun peering behind the lion, the medallion is encircled in two rings of facets, the reverse presents a single pin and dual stay assembly, measures 80.4mm (w) x 80.9mm (h), weighs 54.2 grams one small blemish on yellow enamels, 5 o’clock arm is missing tip of ray, lovely patina, remains in near very fine condition.
